A reason to become a soccer mom…

May 29, 2012

I’ve never really been into cars, and I’ve often tended to judge cars on boot size, coffee-cup holders and mirrors that light up so that I can apply my lipstick at night. But the more I get to know, the more I like, the more I know, and the more concerned I am about safety features, especially as a mom. Don’t get me wrong – I do not know torque from engine capacity, nor do I have the faintest idea what ventilation disks are. But I’m becoming more educated, and this week I tried out the new Mazda CX-5 at the launch this week, with some journos and other bloggers. And it’s why I could become a soccer mom…

It looks awesome and it drives beautifully – I tried the manual and automatic and both were smooth and easy drives. It feels light even though it’s an SUV and I felt like I towered on the road.

So here’s the lowdown for moms – and if you speak the same car language as me, this is what you’ll need to know about the CX-5, depending on which model (there are more detailed specs and info, available from Mazda:

– Height and reach adjustable steering wheel – Seven colours to choose from – 4-Speaker sound system – Roof rails – Sunroof – Parking sensors – A boot with 40/20/40-split rear seats which can be folded down – Bluetooth cell phone interface – Front fog lights – Vanity mirror illumination – Dual control automatic air-conditioning – Driver and passenger heated leather seats – Driver’s seat lumbar support – Parking sensors – Rain sensing wipers – Has ISO-Fix adapters for baby carseats – Front, side and curtain airbags – Console with sunglasses holder – 2 front cupholders – Keyless entry system

I reckon there’ll be lots of happy and safe families in these…
