What are kids around the world most scared of? (infographic)

November 8, 2013

What are children most afraid of? Rasmussen College set out to find out and they made an infographic of their findings about what most concerns 10-12-year-olds from around the world (interestingly, the top six countries who named darkness as their biggest fear were all Spanish-speaking).

The graphic was built from a ChildFund Alliance survey of more than 6 000 children from 47 countries, comparing children’s feelings about fictitious monsters versus present threats to their wellbeing.

Wonder if there is Spanish folklore involving darkness.

My 5 year old is scared of monsters in her room at the moment. The other day we got home and I rushed upstairs to change the smaller ones poo nappy, forgetting the front door open. When I went downstairs 5 year old told me there was a man that came into the house. I immediately panicked, thought it was a break-in, but wondered if it might have been one of her monsters. After almost pushing the alarm panic button and searching the house and being very scared she eventually said the man came into the house and ate Mommy’s chocolate that she was saving for later….

I always wonder about what kids can see. A few weeks ago, Max told me he heard a man knocking on the wall. I couldn’t hear anything, but who knows what they sense?
