Since I generally only feature apps for toddlers and preschoolers, I thought it time to feature ones for school learners too, which I’ll be featuring here regularly (Tania, I hope you’re happy!)
I thought I’d start with Spinlight’s YodelOh maths app because I love Spinlight’s stuff (I featured their educational apps a while back here, and because I’d received some requests to feature maths apps in particular. It’s suited for kids around 6/7 and up, and is a maths game.
The game takes place in an amusement park style setup where you need to get a wooden character up to the top of the mountain by answering math questions. Tap targets to answer questions, score bonuses and stop a herd of half-crazed sheep and you could be the next King of the Mountains in the awesome carnival game from the makers of Operation Math.
You start off by picking an operator; either “plus”, “minus”, “multiply” or “divide” or a combination of all four depending on what you want to focus on. You’re given a question and each time you get the right answer your lederhosen toting character climbs a little higher up the mountain. Get to the top and the difficulty level increases. There’s a great leaderboard section where you can see how well you match up as well as fun bonuses that add a challenge to the game.
The game developers make strong mention of the fact that there are no in-app purchases nor potentially inappropriate ad networks used.
The app is available for iOS and Android for $0.99 and if you’re looking for a way to incentivise learning and make maths fun then this is the app for you.
