Most special gift ever? Personalised storybooks for kids

December 2, 2016

A friend of mine showed me a personalised storybook she had ordered for her nephew, The Little Boy Who Lost His Name, and as soon as I started reading it, the tears started welling. It might be the hormones, but it might have been that I was looking at one of the sweetest and most thoughtful gifts – a story about a child who goes on an adventure lo find each letter of their name.

Beautifully illustrated, these books can be personalised and you can choose a personal message as an intro, plus the gender and three "looks" each for a boy and girl.

You type your child's name, and you get a wonderful storybook, which begins as a child wakes, to discover their name is missing from their wardrobe door. They then set off on a missions to find it, meeting the likes of aardvarks, bears and elks, depending on the letters which make up their name (each letter gets an animal/character attached it).

I read in The Guardian that The Little Girl/Boy Who Lost Her/His Name sold 132 000 copies in the UK alone in 2014, says the publisher, more than Julia Donaldson’s hit picture book Superworm, making it the biggest-selling picture book of that year.

This makes the most awesome birthday or Christmas gift. Each book is a minimum of 24 pages, and get printed and shipped to you, in large double A-4 landscape format on thick, uncoated and environmentally friendly paper.

Each book costs 20 pounds, and shipping is free if you choose normal delivery (this option can take up to three weeks), or express delivery.

I've ordered one for my daughter, and I'm waiting for it to arrive. She's not old enough to enjoy it, but I love the idea that when she's ready, she'll have a beautiful peronsalised storybook, that I have so loved putting together.
