Out of all the cleaning chores, vacuuming is among my best (ironing and changing duvet covers are among the worst). I get satisfaction from seeing dirt, dust and pet hair disappear, and I get a thrill when I see a vacuum bag full of dirt and stuff.
I have two cats and two dogs, which adds to a lot of hair in my house and while the French poodle doesn't shed hair, he shreds enough toys, packaging and food to make our vacuuming work cut out for us.
For the first time, I tried my cleaning hand at a premium and ultra-powerful dry and wet vacuum cleaner, the Kärcher WD 6P Premium. (Last month I tried out the Kärcher S2 steam cleaner with sparkling results – you can read about my experience with it here),
This vacuum is suitable for indoor home cleaning, and it's dry and wet, so is very versatile.
Here are some if its features:
It has innovative filter removal technology.
Dry and wet dirt can be vacuumed without the need for filter replacement
It has a 30-litre stainless-steel container, and is easy to wheel around and handle.
The dirty filter can be efficiently cleaned by pushing the filter cleaning button, so that suction power is quickly restored.
The power outlet with automatic on/off switch allows you to work with connected power tools, so that dirt resulting from planing, sawing or grinding work is vacuumed directly.
Suction power can be adapted to requirements, both for standard vacuuming operations andfor use with power tools.
I'm certainly no cleaning or vacuum expert, but I can say that this is the most powerful and swiftest vacuum I've used. You might think that this says more about the other average cleaners I've used than this one, but this one is a strong force in its own right.
It effectively swept up everything – whether it was dust under the couches, dog hair on the rugs, cereal from the kitchen floor (spilt there for testing purposes), two cups of water off the floor (again, spilt there for testing purposes), dirt off the blinds, cat hair off the duvet, whatever was on the mattress, and who knows how many bacteria and random dirt/food particles around.
It's light to wheel around, and really simple to assemble and use – there are no complicated valves or buttons, and it's easy to put the bag in for dry use, and take it out again for wet vacuuming.
If I was looking for a hardcore vacuum cleaner, would it tick all the boxes of what I needed? Yes. Those boxes include value for money (the unit is R4 299), effective, and easy to put together and use. Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely. And will I or my domestic worker use it again? Absolutely yes (in fact, my domestic worker is now using it daily).
The Kärcher WD 6P Premium is available from R4 299 from Kärcher Centre and retailers such as Takealot. For more information, go to Kärcher.
