A post dedicated to one face foundation… here’s why

April 13, 2017

A lot of the time my beauty posts are grouped into favourites, but this sensational product deserves a solo spotlight because it's that good, and because I'm quite in awe of how taken I am by it.

It's Lancome's new Teint Idole Ultra Cushion foundation, and it's the first time I'm using a foundation that isn't MAC, for I've loved MAC foundations for so long, and have been using them since my early 20s, moving to higher-coverage products as my skin's needs have changed. In fact, whatever I've used during my MACaffair has been for brief times, and generally unsatisfactory brief times.

So I wasn't all that excited opening this pretty compact (even though it really is lovely) and finding a makeup-infused sponge that gets pressed out with a little foam pad, and then applied to your skin.

How naive I was. This oil-free and lightweight foundation is incredible, and the end result is a smoothed-out, natural dewy finish, which takes almost zero effort, thought or technique in getting there (just how I like it!)

There's surprisingly high coverage for such a lightweight liquid foundation, and it feels luscious and light on my skin. It's also oil-free, and has an SPF 50, so you don't need to apply anything else during the day.

It's available in seven shades, and costs R499, with the refill for the compact costing R350. I tried the 04 shade, which was just perfect.

Below are pics of me wearing it. The pics are completely unedited and unfiltered, so you're not seeing anything fake or too good to be true. Is my skin flawless wearing the foundation? Certainly not, but I'm not convinced that you'll see me flawless without a heavy hand of Photoshop or filtering. Trust me though – the after looks waaaaay better than before, and for that, this product is my new favourite.

Sounds and looks like a lovely foundation. I’m always willing to give something new a try. I’ve always been a Loreal infallible for everyday wear and then estee lauder or clinique continuous coverage for those going out special occasions. Ive got ugly marks from when I was preg with both my boys and they’ve never really gone away.
