An experiment that will make you think: the stereotyping of kids’ toys

August 23, 2017

Will I buy my daughter trucks, Nerf guns, Meccano and racing cars when she’s older? I’d like to think I will, but there’s a chance I will simply buy typical girls’ toys – pink stuff, dolls, and the Lego that’s dumbed down (in my opinion) for girls.

This recent video from BBC got me thinking about how easy it is to stereotype children, and to steer their direction of toy preferences, before they’ve even had a chance to develop preferences themselves.

Have a look at this interesting video, and let me know what you think… do you think we steer our children into gender-stereotyped play?
