A beauty writer reveals her best products – and biggest beauty regret

September 20, 2017

Like most of you, I love beauty products, and I'm always curious about who's using what, and what people in the biz are loving. I'm kicking off here with a Q&A series with women in the beauty industry, and I'm starting with Tori Tatham, one of my favourite beauty bloggers, and also one of the most established here. You can find her at Kiss, Blush & Tell, or on Instagram here.

Here, Tori answers all those things I'm curious about:

What’s always in your makeup up?

My day-to-day make up bag is pretty simple. I always have a tinted moisturiser (either my Radiant Tinted Moisturiser from NARS or my Bourjois CC cream), a blush (My Hourglass blush in Mood Exposure), a bronzer (Chanel, always), my brow product (Essence Make Me Brow as it’s easy to use and takes two secs) as well as a mascara (whichever one I am testing at the time). Because I am always reviewing products, I change this up often.

Biggest beauty regret?

Not wearing SPF daily from a young age and the fact that I used to tan my face (shock horror!)

What’s the one treatment you want?

I am keen to try the Fraxel laser treatment next.

What’s the one product you would love to try?

I always have a wishlist on my phone and tend to shop online from international sites way more often than a should, but this is the only way I can test and review all the products my readers ask about. Next on my list is the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder and the Glossier Cloud Paints (plus loads of other goodies).

Your favourite lipstick?

It would have to be Julianne’s True Red from L’Oreal. I don’t wear red lips that often, but when I do this is my favourite. For nude lips I love my Charlotte Tilbury X Kim K-W Nude and my Tom Ford in Nude Vanille. A cheaper alternative for day-to-day wear that I love is Rimmel’s Kate Moss nude in shade 45.

Favourite fragrance?

I have three (sorry!) – Byredo Mojave Ghost, Diptyque L'Ombre dans l'Eau and Tom Ford Black Orchid (more recently the brand new CHANEL Gabrielle fragrance)

Best beauty tip/hack?

Facial spritzes. I use a setting spray throughout my make-up application. It makes sure my make-up doesn’t look cakey, ensures the products I have put on don’t look heavy and gives me a glow that I adore.

What deodorant and perfume are you wearing right now?

Today I am wearing my usual Dove original deodorant and Bvlgari Splendida in Jasmine Noir.

What hair products are you currently using?

Pureology Hydrate shampoo and conditioner and today I have way too much Colab Dry Shampoo and Oaui Texturising Spray to hide the fact that I have missed my hair washing day for 2 days in a row!

What is the one beauty look you wish you could create?

Nothing really jumps out to me as, to be honest, as much as I love make-up, I really love keeping my make-up looks and application super minimal. I am all about glowing skin as my focus. Having said that, I guess I would quite like to know how to do liquid liner as I am shocking at this!

What treatment/product would you never use/try again?

Limelight laser. I had a bad experience with this the last time I tried it. It wasn’t the treatment at all, it was the therapist who burnt my chest

Your top five beauty items you would take to an island?

My Heliocare Gel Spf 50 for the face – the best facial sun cream ever and I would need all the protection I could get being on an island.

My Sisley Black Rose Face Mask – I swear by a good face mask and this one from Sisley packs in the hydration and can be left on over-night.

My TC Salicylic Acne Pads frorm ZO Skin Health – I don’t go anywhere without proper exfoliating products (even if it’s a wkd away) and these facial pads have triple action exfoliation. Without regular exfoliation in my routine everything else is a bit pointless as no products can penetrate the skin properly.

My Babor Foaming Cleanser – this stuff just feels like silk on my skin and removes make up in an instant without stripping the skin

NARS Tinted Moisturiser – it has SPF and gives just the right amount of coverage

Lipstick or mascara?

Mascara. Always. I definitely am one of those girls who needs mascara in my life (I look like a mole otherwise!)

What’s in your makeup bag right now?

Tinted moisturiser, my Urban Decay Naked Heat palette (I can’t get enough), the new Lancôme Mr Big mascara (love this – testing for a review), Essence Make Me Brow brow mascara, Benefit Boi-ing Concealers (testing all of these concealers out) and my trusty Hourglass blush. Accessories wise there is my Shu Uemura lash curler, my foundation brush and my eyeshadow brush. Also, always a bottle of pure rosewater spray to keep my skin hydrated and calm.

What’s your beauty vice?

I guess the fact that I am pretty social is my vice as this means a lot of great food and wine which does tend to go against the whole clean eating and exercising thing that I do well from Monday to Thursday. This isn’t really a vice though as it makes me very happy and it never means that my skincare routine takes a knock but I guess lack of sleep means my skin needs some extra TLC.
