Crushing on One-Juice juices – fresh, great-tasting and even good for kids who won’t eat fruit or veggies

October 17, 2017

Whether you're looking to kickstart your bikini body eating plan, or just get some good ol nutrients into your system, or even get your kids to eat more fruit and veg, there's a juice for that.

Juice "fasts" and diets are a trend at the moment, but even if you don't go that route, there's no reasoon why you can't buy a juice package and keep them in the fridge or freezer.

I recently tried out One-Juice fruit and veggie offerings, from Wellness Warehouse at Kyalami Corner, which came recommended by someone who does regular juice detoxes, and who knows her stuff. I sometimes think a juice is a juice is a juice, but One-Juice crushed it on the taste front, even with ingredients I didn't think I'd like, such as spinach, kale, apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper. Since I wasn't on a long detox, I shared some of my juices with my colleagues, who loved the varieties too, and who were also surprised that kale could taste good. Seriously.

Here are the juices they offer (which can be bought from the Wellness Warehouse at Kyalami Corner)

Green juice: apples, kale, cucumber, lemon, spinach

Red juice: beetroot, carrot, apple, lemon, ginger

Gold juice: pineapple, apple, cucumber, lemon

Carrot juice: carrot, apple, lemon

Spicy lemon juice: lemon, apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper

White juice: almond milk, vanilla, cinnamon, Himalayan salt

Turmeric juice: Turmeric, orange, apple, lemon, ginger

Green zero juice: Celery, cucumber, kale, lemon, parsley, lettuce, spinach, ginger

They also stock incredible-looking smoothies and juices, and another goodie as snacks on the go, or for your kids. One-Juice offers three-, five- and seven-day juice detoxes, and they cold-press their ingredients, which they say retains more vitamins, enzymes and minerals than juices made with a traditional centrifugal machine.

You can expect to pay from R280 (for eight juices) for a one-day cleanse, to R1 700 (for 56 juices) for a seven-day cleanse. Again, you can still buy them if you're not doing a cleanse and freeze them or consume immediately.

I think kids would take to all of the varieties, except for spicy lemon, which has quite a cayenne pepper hit. It's not unbearable though, and I felt quite a good kick. This is the variety I'd stock up for winter or when I'm feeling the onset of a cold as cayenne contains capsaicin which decreases congestion.

The spicy lemon juice is another good health booster: the apple cider vinegar is a great alkalinizer, which is good forAdding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, or lemon juice, to a glass of water helps to alkalinize the body, which is good for fighting off bacteria. Apple cider vinegar has other benefits including weight loss, apparently, and lowering blod pressure. It's quite astringent tasting on its own or mixed in water, but in this juice, it's fantastic.

You can find One-Juice at standalone stores in Sea Point and Parkhurst, and from the Wellness Warehouse at Kyalami Corner or at selected Wellness Warehouses in Gauteng and Cape Town.
