Fantastic questions to ask your child after school

January 18, 2018

I came across an article about the clever questions parents ask their kids about their school day, which will elicit more conversation than a “fine” (I had this exact scenario yesterday when I asked my son about his first day of school).

I thought I’d put together a post with your smart questions. Thanks to those who contributed! If you have any others, please comment on this post and I’ll add them.

  • What kind of fun did you have?
  • Who made you laugh?
  • What was the best part of they day?
  • What was your least favourite?
  • Did you get shouted at?
  • Did you get complimented/praised?
  • Did anyone cry?
  • Who did you play with?
  • Rate your day from 1 to 10.
  • Teach me something you learnt.
  • Did you make any new friends?
  • What new word did you learn?
  • What made you scared?
  • How was the maths test?
  • What was the hardest rule to follow?
  • What did you do in *insert subject*?
  • Did someone do something to make you laugh?
  • Were you kind to anyone?
  • Did the teacher tell you anything that you didn’t understand?
  • What did you eat?
  • Who was good to you? Who were you good to?
  • Who had the best snack?
  • What made you laugh?
  • What is the funniest thing that happened?
  • What made you smile?
  • Did anything make you sad or mad?
  • Was anyone sad?
  • What questions did you ask?
  • What would you do differently tomorrow?
  • Who farted today?

Omg. Thank you I needed to read this. All I could get out of my son was: School was nice. Lunch was fine and the teacher is nice.
