MIXA

Winter’s little skin saver: French brand MIXA (plus get 20% off products at Takealot)

June 28, 2018

Earlier this year, South Africa got a bestselling French skincare brand on its shelves, MIXA, which is not only affordable (from R45 per product), but a hard-working skin soother too, and if you battle with dry skin in winter, then it’s definitely worth a look/try.

Like the cult brand Kiehl’s, MIXA also has its origins in a pharmacy, this time in the early 1920 when a young French pharmacist Dr Roger started blending creams with traditional apothecary ingredients. The reason he started was because he was in the area of Boulogne, known as the centre of Parisian launderettes (now you can drop this factoid into random conversations).

As a result of all the handwashing, women’s hands were stripped of moisture, and they had dry and cracking skin. They headed to Monsieur Roger, who gave them an ointment he had prepared, using a special mixing technique, and thus a brand was born. It was called MIXA, after, you guessed it, this unique type of mixing.

Today, MIXA is the number-one bodycare brand in Franch, and includes face, suncare, body and baby products. There are only four products available here so far – three body lotions and Cica Repair Balm – but here’s hoping we can see more of the range here.

There are three lotions for various needs – Soothing, Anti-Dryness and Restorative – and the repair balm which is the most hydrating. It can be used on the face, and it’s fantastic for dry and cracked heels too. I like applying it to my feet, putting socks on, and going to sleep with them.

For winter and the Joburg dryness, I’ve ramped things up, and have gone from the Restoring lotion to the Anti-Drying, just for some extra hydration.

When you use the code RATTLE20 at checking, you’ll get 20% off all MIXA products from Takealot, which means a lotion will cost you just R37, which is a steal considering the products’ efficacy. There’s no minimum spend and no catches, so go wild. If you know someone who battles with dry skin, or you just want to make someone’s day – and skin – this season, they why not treat them to a tube or bottle.
