I asked the gorgeous Shanon Leicher, owner of Hand in Parkhurst, Johannesburg, to share some top hair maintenance tips for busy moms. As a busy mom herself and owner of a top salon, Shanon is “hairvenly” equipped to give some useful advice.
“For moms on the run with kids and work, we find it hard to find time to look after ourselves. When it comes to your hair, there’s even less time. We suggest that if you have long hair that you keep it as close to your natural colour as possible, so when those dreaded grey hairs start showing, it’s not too obvious.
We find that longer hair is easier to maintain, especially in the mornings. With short hair it needs a little more time for styling. But with short cuts like Emma Watson has, this is probably the easiest and quickest to style each day.
Highlights are gorgeous but we suggest keeping them more natural looking than the bleached look. We offer a wide range of treatments from Wella, available for your hair type to ensure healthy looking hair.
For moms with curly, frizzy hair we suggest doing a Brazilian treatment, this will make your hair a lot more manageable and our Brazilian is free from formaldehyde. Our styling aids by label m have such a wide variety for hair, from curl cream to relaxing balm to volume mousse.
For the “green” ladies out there, we suggest Naturalmente shampoos, conditioners and colours. Their colours are free of ammonia and leave your hair with a beautiful shine. The shampoos & conditioners are free of all sulphates – even their packaging is made from corn so can be thrown straight into your compost heaps!
Shanon and her team of five stylists can be found on 66 6th Street, Parkhurst. They’re open from Tuesday to Saturday, and offer free consultations. They also stock jewellery (I have bought an amazing cuff there) and decor items, and offer waxes, massages, manis and pedis. Call them on 011 011 447 1021 or find them on Twitter @HandJHB or Facebook- HAND
