App of the week: Story of You (a free baby book app for moms)

February 12, 2013

For my son’s first year, I was quite diligent about marking his milestones in a notebook, and then forgot to keep it up, which I regret a lot.

If you’re a new mom, pregnant, or would even like to go back in time and create a keepsake that you can share, or keep as a brilliant “gift” for your children when they’re older, then Story of You is a great option.

It’s a free app available for iPad and your laptop or desktop, and lets you create a digital baby book that records your baby’s first milestones and moments, as well as their birth day, and family members. You can add digital photos, videos and text, and the book can be updated and shared to Facebook.

There is a plain but passable template, but for something more design-focused, you can buy other templates off the app.

There have been some reviewer complaints that you can’t print from the app, and that the themes are quite limited. According to developers, they are working on a printing interface, as well as more customisation of the look of the themes. The good news is that even if you get the app now for free, you can simply update it when it’s ready.
