I’ve downloaded quite a lot of learn-to-read and alphabet apps for my son, and one of my faves is Endless ABC.
For starters, it’s free on iOS, and has a rating of five stars in iTunes. Next, it’s interactive and offers loads of words to learn, with more being delivered automatically regularly.
But what’s best is the app’s multi-offering: kids can learn the meanings of words, phonetics (the sound each letter makes), and letter recognition, matching the letters to where they need to fit in the word. It’s therefore suited to a wide age range of kids – from those learning the basics, to those mastering them.
There are no points, scores or unlocking of levels, so your child can go at their own pace, with no pressure.
