This picture above shows just a fraction of what moms brought to the #GraceFactorySocial on Saturday. It took three full carloads and one full bakkieload to get all the donations back to The Grace Factory storage facility.
We planned a get-together for moms to bring some used clothing for need kids around Joburg (The Grace Factory collects and donates clothing and goods to places of safety and orphanages), but we had no idea of the kindness and support we would get.
And I know this is going to sound like an Oscar acceptance speech, but it’s necessary. Please allow me some tears too, and a dramatic wave too.
Firstly, to Jump n Play who sponsored 30 minutes of free play time for all children in attendance and a free coffee. and Belle’s Patisserie who donated 50 red velvet cupcakes (voted Joburg’s best, and it’s no surprise why).
Learn 2 Craft gave us the most delish and amazing-looking cake pops, The Grace Factory donated snacks and drinks, and Catherine from Catherine Scott Photography took pics of the event, and individual pics of moms and their kids.
And a special and huge thanks to Andrea Cbarras, a beautiful pregnant mom who’s a designer and has one the most wonderful blogs, Clever Bird Banter, who offered to do our invite and all artwork. We haven’t even met Andrea in real life, but I *know* she is the kind of person I would leave my son with, and enjoy coffees with.
And then there was you – whether it was tweeting, blogging, encouraging others to attend, coming or donating. We were overwhelmed and heartwarmed by the generosity, and the effort people went to with their shopping, searching, packing and giving (Gina Jacobson even posted a pic of her son Aaron who gave away a few of his soft toys for charity).
With clothes, bags, nappies and wipes squashed in my car (and even a Bumbo side almost on my head) on the way to drop off stuff after the function, I cried more than just a few tears for those who have, those who don’t, and those who go through life with hands open to give, rather than hands open to take. Thank you for those giving hands. *Cue more tears, a proud arm pump with my non-existent Oscar, and a grateful bow*

PPS: It was great to finally meet Catherine, and other moms of the interwebs such as Marcelle, Tanya, Nicole, Beth and Rene.
