App of the week: TapTapToink musical puzzles (for toddlers and preschoolers)

May 15, 2014
TapTapToink ($1.99 for iOS) is a learning app that doesn’t feel like a lesson at all thanks to beautiful visuals, clean interface, and interesting music.

It consists of puzzles and games that relate to texture, colour, shapes, sizes and even Roman numerals, and to match successfully or complete the games, you just drag and drop.

There are no points systems or in-app purchases (woohoo!), but kids are “rewarded” with animation, animal sounds, or changing colours.

What they say:

Tap Tap Toink is a soothing world of colors, shapes and sounds, developed specially for children aged 0-5, recently published on the AppStore in 15 languages for the Iphone, Ipad and Ipod Touch.

The app consists of a series of puzzles and games, with increasing difficulty, that come alive when completed at the sound of an original tune composed in a special instrument, a mixture of maraca and marimba. These activities allow children to improve visual association, practice logical thinking and, most importantly, have fun!

Activities include:
– Matching colours, shapes, textures and shades
– Recognising animals and vehicles
– Associating colours, objects and sounds.

My experience

I love these puzzles and the simplicity and great looks of TapTapToink. It’s one of the first apps (if not the first) I’ve seen that teaches and tests texture, shades of colour and Roman numerals. Most of all, it’s fun and intuitive, and I had a good time playing with it too (this might say more about me than the app, but still, TapTapToink is a winner).

PS: How cool could some of these designs look framed, or on canvases in kids’ nurseries and playrooms?
