I often think about what makes a great hotel for kids – is it somewhere with great food, entertainment and extra-cool things to do, or should it have an amazing theme, like LEGO or Disney?
I haven’t travelled enough to know all the amazing hotels around the world for kids, but I found a post that interested me on TravelAmerikanki, listing their top 10 best kid-friendly hotels in the world. One of them is even in South Africa, at Madikwe game reserve, and I’m pretty sure there are dozens of lodges in South Africa that could offer a superb bush experience for children.
Here’s their list, and a short explanation of each place. Some of them sound sensational.
Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas
When you want to take a family vacation in the Caribbean, this hotel should come to mind first! Its theme-park atmosphere is filled with marine-like attractions like Dolphins Cove and a stunning water park. Kids will further enjoy interactive features designed just for them, like the living dollhouse, cooking classes, and theater activities to name a few.
Madikwe Safari Lodge
Did someone say elephants? This malaria-free game resort’s accommodations will enchant children and adults alike. Situated at the edge of the Kalahari in the Madiwe Game Reserve, the lodge provides a thrilling experience that will last kids a lifetime as they catch glimpses of wild dogs, watch elephants bathe in the river, and learn bush survival skills from expert guides. The accommodations are comfortable as they are breathtaking to behold.
Circus Circus, Las Vegas, Nevada
While this hotel’s name and reputation might say it all, Circus Circus, for those who don’t know, is tops when traveling with kids in Las Vegas. This city is filled with a wide array of family friendly attractions and shows. Yet a stay at this hotel and casino is filled with circus acts, an arcade, and, typically, lots of other kids!
Paradisus Playa Del Carmen La Esmeralda, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico
Located on the Mayan Riviera, this breathtaking resort hotel offers a luxury experience for the whole family. Kids will enjoy the beaches and water sport as well as the nearby Mayan pyramids. The Family Concierge program is an added bonus!
Treasure Island Resort and Holiday Park, Bigger Waters, Queensland
This Gold Coast resort hotel is the ideal Australian getaway for families. With theme parks like Dreamland and Sea World, this hotel refuses to allow boredom of any kind. Both kids and adults enjoy the non-stop thrills and seemingly endless variety of things to see and do.
Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Orlando, Florida
Ideal for the entire family with its enchanting lagoons and pools, this resort is situated on Stormalong Bay and features a beachside recreation area as well as a children’s activity center. The café is visited by Disney characters and the accommodations are lavish. It’s a splendid kid-friendly place near both Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Holiday Village Rhodes, Kolimbia, Greece
Swim-up rooms, pools and waterslides, kids’ clubs, and the ancient beauty of Rhodes, is Greece’s answer to a kid-friendly hotel, but not surprisingly, it’s right up their parent’s alley too! From the mini cinema to plenty of kid-friendly activities, there are lots of thrilling attractions to soak up the kids’ time while the adults soak up the sun!

Many families like to head into the mountains for hiking and sightseeing adventures. This resort nestled in the White Mountains is perfect for young adventurers who enjoy horseback riding, biking, and even whitewater rafting. On the other hand, if the kids are still too young for an exciting raft trip, they can hang out at the resort’s 40,000 square foot water park!
The Ritz, London
Even little ones might also learn to live it up at the Ritz! Kids will love the royal treatment in store for them at the Ritz as they are catered to by a teen concierge, provided with free ice cream, and sent up milk and cookies just before bed time. It’s an experience they’ll never forget!
