Ginette Potgieter sewed, baked and planned cool activities for her daughter Chloe’s third birthday party with a fairy garden party theme, where one man even proposed to his girlfriend!
Says this Pietermaritzburg mom of two: “The party was held at a gorgeous venue known as Heart of the Home in Pietermaritzburg. I actually won the party venue hire in a Facebook competition held at the beginning of the year and it couldn’t have been more perfect with it’s gorgeous luscious garden, jungle gym, foofie slide and secret garden!
On the invitations, guests were asked for girls to bring their fairy wings and for boys to wear a green shirt to the party. Upon arrival, the children were greeted by the Fairy Godmother and Peter Pan who then transformed girls into little fairies and peter pans. Girls were giving handmade tutu skirts and hair bands while boys were given a felt hat, belt and sword. All the clothing items were handmade by me and my incredibly helpful parents.
The absolutely gorgeous doll cake was made by my amazing friend, Genevieve Little of Simply D’Licious. She also made the fondant toadstools and paving for the cupcakes and I decorated the cupcakes. All the other party food was made by me, my mom and mother-in-law. Adult food platters were bought from Parklane Spar.
Children under two were given a party box filled with age-appropriate snacks while the older children were able to take a picnic basket and choose whatever they wanted to eat from the children’s party food table. Thereafter they could sit in the picnic area and enjoy their yummy treats. Hidden in the secret garden was also fairy dust and flower lollipops for the children to find.
For entertainment, a craft table was also available for the children to decorate their own magic wands. There was also a jumping castle provided by Hoppers and Bugs as well as a target practice area for the boys to throw stick arrows.
To end off the morning a surprise engagement even took place at the party where Peter Pan (aka Marc Freeman) proposed to the Fairy Godmother (Vicky Clark)! It really was such a romantic, special moment…
