I recently tried out another ready-to-eat range for babies and kids called Tot Nosh, which I’ve dubbed Top Nosh as it’s really tasty. The Joburg-based homemade food business makes meals and snacks for kids from around 15 months, up to about seven years. The meals are sold in portions of four, and it helps that they were developed by mom of two Louise Jacobs, who has a strong background in food.
Raised baking and cooking, Louise studied a BSC Consumer Science in Food, focusing on product development and nutrition, before doing a Cordon Bleu cooking course. She also worked as a product developer for a small fresh food company in South Africa and then moved to the UK, working as a technical manager in the foods department at Unilever for eight years.
Back home, and with her firstborn, Louise loved cooking and trying out new flavour combinations and recipes for her son. Her friends, who didn’t have the time to cook interesting and healthy food, battled to find a good alternative, so resorted to supermarket convenient foods. This led Louise to start a business, filling the gap with delicious and nutritious meals for kids.
Tot Nosh has a choice of nine frozen products, many of which are full of vegetables. All products use full-cream dairy products, free-range eggs and chicken, and sustainably sourced fish.
The meals are not completely prepared and so are ready for you to add your special touch and tailor it to best suit your little tot. Each meal of four portions costs from around R45.
Louise can arrange delivery to your home servicing the Northern suburbs of Johannesburg within 3-4 working days of receiving the order and proof of payment, or you can collect your meals from her premises in Craighall, Johannesburg. Deliveries cost an additional R35 per delivery order.
