I've had maternity shoots, newborn shoots and family shoots done, but for the first time, I had a pet portrait shoot done, by the fantastic Joburg-based photographer Salomé Nourse of Yellow Lab (Salomé also does family, maternity and newborn shoots).
Before the shoot, I warned Salomé that my dogs are quite excitable (read: they can barely sit still when there's company around), and that she would need lots of patience. Salomé, a mom of two gorgeous boys and two yellow Labradors, reassured me that all would be great, and that she would have lots of treats on hand.
It's testament to Salomé's quick hand and eye that she managed to get these gorgeous pics – the dogs were very seldom still (Henri the French poodle's max still time was about four seconds, and Gina the Labrador's still time was about one second).
The dogs seemed to have a great time in the studio with all the attention, treats and general excitement, and dozed off on the way home (much like I remember my son napping on the way home from all his shoots when he was younger).
I'm so happy I've got these beautiful images of my dogs, which will wonderfully fit in with the rest of the family pictures on the walls, pedestals and photo books.
PS: Look out soon – I'll be giving away a pet portrait shoot with Salomé.
And while I happily went to the shoot, excited that I wouldn't have to be photographed myself (it's not my favourite), Salomé convinced me to have at least one, a great memory of my 20-week pregnancy milestone.
