Deryan travel cots – lightweight and convenient

October 26, 2016

I’m a little sorry I hadn’t heard of Deryan when I was shopping for campcots for my baby a few months ago. Perhaps I would have opted for something lightweight and “easy” like their travel cots, rather than something quite bulky, heavy and pricy.

That said, there’s still lots of use for the Deryan Peuter Box travel cot I’ve reviewed – it’s great for picnics, outdoor play/naps and the beach, and I’m looking forward to using it over the holidays, and even on playdates/excursions when my baby is a little older.

Deryan says that it can also be used as a playpen, and while I like this concept for young babies, I think it’s quite restrictive for older infants and toddlers who might be better off in a less contained space.

Deryan travel cots come in different models, but they all have a lightweight size and compact form in common.

While many reviewers say it’s really easy to assemble and dissemble, we found it a little harder. Maybe it was the sketchy instructions or maybe it was our sleep deprivation with a 2.5 week newborn at home, but I had to watch a YouTube video to figure out how to put in the frames (these are optional on the Peuter Box) and fold it up afterwards.

Adding the frames add a bit more time and efffort, but they also add more stability too, though with a newborn we don’t really them yet.

The box however is easy to pop open, and the mattress simple to “inflate”. Don’t expect a super thick mattress – it’s still quite thin, but it does offer comfort and support (I know, because I squeezed myself into the box to try. I’m not about to replace my bed with it, of course, but it feels quite cosy and comfy in there despite not being the target market for it).

It’s good to know that the Deryan travel cots comply with European safety standards (Deryan is produced in The Netherlands).
