Well, last weekend we packed up and headed to Emperors for a mini "staycation" at the Metcourt, and to see The Smurfs. Even though it's less than half an hour away from home, staying a night at a hotel with some of the comforts and luxuries I don't get at home is a win, and a good break from the routine, and even a good opportunity to recharge.
My "recharge" came in the form of hanging out in our large room, sprawled on the king-sized, extra-length bed, watching sports (between cricket, cycling and tennis), while my son built forts for he and his sister, and entertained her. I read, I ate, I drank, and I didn't do a stitch of work. I hung out with my little family with few distractions and "duties", and it was incredible.
To be honest, I was expecting a lot less from a three-star hotel, and was surprised to find a large room, tea and coffee amenities, room service, and tens of DStv channels. I mean, I'd seen the pictures and it all looked great, but it's another thing experiencing things, and they exceed the press descriptions.
While it's a short walk to the Emperors Palace complex, we stayed in, and just got takeaways from the food court (there are around 15 restaurant there to choose from), and then milshakes from the Metcourt bar for dessert.
if you're not heading to Emperors for a stay, it's so worth still going to see The Smurfs Live – I have not yet heard or read a bad review, and it seems it's the thing to do with kids until the end of July. There are shows on Thursdays (6pm), and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (10am, 2pm and 6pm). Tickets are available from R150 per person. Bookings are available from Computicket.
