In Joburg with young kids? Here’s a pampering spot with a difference

September 6, 2017

Time strapped? In need of me-time? Looking for a great venue that you and your young kids can enjoy? Then take a look at the new Tribe & You in Parkmore, Sandton, a nail salon-kids' play venue that is as good for moms as it is for kids.

This is a spot where you can have your nails done by a team of fantastic beauticians, while your kids get looked after in a play area indoors or out. And if your baby or infant isn't keen to leave your side, they'll roll out a huge playmat, and lay out some toys, so your child is still close by (while a childminder will ensure that your nails don't get smudged!)

Tribe & You was started by mom Martynne (she used to own and run a Sorbet salon), who saw a gap for a pampering spot for moms where kids would be well looked after. And she's nailed it (see what I did there?).

I went on Saturday, along with Sarah and Aria, my baby daughter Rebecca's bestie. Sarah was in need of foot pampering, and I was in need of a bit of at time out after a tiring week at work, and a very interrupted night of sleep (I'm looking at you, Rebecca).

We were greeted warmly, our babies played in the salon before going to the play room downstairs, and Sarah and I caught up – over wine – while we had a divine mani and pedi. Kids can also have manis here – Tribe & You stocks Nailmatic, a gentle, water-based product that washes off with water (no need to remove it with acetone). It's also free from formaldeyhyde and fragrance.

And so that you can keep an eye on your kids while you relax, there's a CCTV monitor to allow you to see what's happening with them in the indoor and outdoor play areas.

You can find out more on the Facebook page, and you can also do online bookings at My Appointment. Tribe & You is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 9am to 5pm. An express mani starts at R175, and a deluxe mani from R230. An express pedi starts at R180, and a deluxe at R250. Childminding costs R50.
