The Crabtree & Evelyn Tea Room is just my cuppa tea!

June 5, 2018

If there’s one thing that I’ve wanted to do for several years, but didn’t make time for it, was heading to the Crabtree & Evelyn Tea Room, for, you guessed it, tea and sweet things.

In my head, the Crabtree & Evelyn brand has gone from quite posh and “ladylike” (think gardener’s soap and hand cream, and preserves and shortbread) to something more modern with an English twist, and I’m yet to pass a shelf in their stores without wanting something (have a read here for some of their food offerings, or here for my absolute favourite C&E range – La Source).

Anyway, back to the tea and carbs… On Saturday Sarah (of Mascara and Mimosas) headed to the Tea Room for a high tea mom date, surrounded by some of our favourite things: carbohydrates and delicious-smelling products (we hung around the air diffusers for quite a long time, and if it wasn’t for the fact that I’ve just set up a new business and trying to be adult around my credit card, I would have bought one. And maybe a candle to go with it).

The Crabtree & Evelyn Tea Room is at the top of the store and is cosy and charming, where a table in the centre of the room beckons you with heavenly-looking cakes. Sarah had the sacher torte and I had a huge scone, which was served warm with butter, jam and clotted cream. Just with jam, it was a fluffy (it was the lightest scone I think I’ve ever eaten) and sweet treat.

The high tea spread was lovely, and there’s enough for everyone: no need to fight over that cheese scone or rush for the sandwiches – there is at least one of everything per person, and sometimes two. I had the Early Grey tea with my food, but you can choose something more unusual if you’d like. The high tea includes a glass of bubbly and a slice of cake – we declined the bubbly but dove into the cake.

If high tea isn’t your thing, you can also order off the menu, where you’ll find some breakfast and lunch options (see the menu here for more info).

The tearoom is a delightful place if you’re looking for a sweet treat, needing a break between shopping in the Fourways and Sandton areas. Don’t forget to smell the diffusers and candles in the store!

The Crabtree & Evelyn Tea Room is open on Saturdays from 9am to 5pm, and on Sundays and public holidays from 9am to 4pm.
