Seriously nice things to eat, add to your beauty regime, or save up for

December 14, 2018

Shew, it’s been a few weeks of being on the receiving end of some stunning beauty, hair and food products, but this doesn’t go without my shopping activities. Here are some things I’m loving, and therefore recommending to you this month (PS: for those who are are ever wondering, I generally don’t feature stuff that I don’t like and wouldn’t buy for myself or for a friend. So if I often seem gushy, it’s because I’ve literally picked my faves to write about).

Schwartzkopf Gliss Intense Therapy

At around R115, this is one of the best treatments for your buck. If your hair is damaged through heating, handling and colouring, then Gliss Intense Therapy could help. It has OMEGAPLEX®, which is basically bonding technology that reconstructs the broken bonds in the inner hair structure, to stabilise hair from within. It works on the same concept as the likes of Olaplex, and SmartBond.

A big bonus is that you only need to leave it on for one minute after shampooing and conditioning. It’s available from Clicks, Dis-Chem, Checkers and Pick n Pay.

I Heart Granola

A granola is a granola is a granola, right? Not so, according to the experts, ie me. I could live on breakfast for every meal, and granola is one of my best meals. I don’t adore boxed granola as homemade is just so much better.

I Heart Granola is a local company that produces glass jars of granola – their flavours are Rose-Marries Honey (love this title!) and Cocoa-Nut Affair. My granola didn’t make it to the bowl, or even to milk and yoghurt. I ate them straight from the jar, with a teaspoon, on the couch, and these were heavenly moments, I tell you.

They use ingredients such as chia seeds, vanilla essence, activated almonds, Himalayan salt and dark chocolate drops.

You can order them online – a 250g jar costs R85 (and you get to keep/recycle your glass jar afterwards!).

Kryolan Vitacolor Foundation

Finding and buying this foundation has literally saved me so much frustration and a little bit of heartache as I just haven’t been able to find “the one” – a foundation that covers everything, and which doesn’t need ages to apply.  I popped into my nearest Kryolan store, and bought their Vitacolor cream-like foundation that is just brilliant – it’s an easy-to-apply cover all! It is quite heavy though, so you might want something else for days when you feel like something lighter.

It costs R413, and available at Kryolan stores and online.

Bespoke by Kate

Kate Shearer is a jewellery designer who studied in New York (she worked at Cartier too!), and has a brand called Bespoke by Kate. Engagement rings are her speciality, but her line also extends to more affordable fine jewellery (necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings). All her pieces are made with 9ct gold, and not gold plating, as is seen almost everywhere.

At a pop-up event of hers, I tried on a blue Topaz ring that is just so exquisite… I asked my husband if he would propose to me again with it, and he wasn’t amused.

The jewellery is suited to gifts for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. The price ranges start at R1 700 for a pair of 9ct yellow, rose or white gold hoop earrings. To make a booking to view the range or order online, email Kate or find her on Instagram.

Lamelle Recharge CE

I’ve read so many good things about Lamelle’s Recharge CE, and it’s been highly recommended as a dupe for Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, which is beyond many of our budgets.

Lamelle has updated its Recharge CE, and delivers a high concentration (20%) of pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid) to the skin.

Why is ascorbic acid such a big deal for skin? Well, it’s a powerful antioxidant that protects against free radical damage, and it promotes new collagen growth, and inhibits melanin production for brighter skin.

According to Lamelle, very few products marketed as vitamin C today contain actual ascorbic acid, because it is by nature unstable and not easy to deliver properly to consumers. In many products labelled as vitamin-C rich, you’re not getting the effects of ascorbic acid, and only vitamin C derivatives that are more stable (such as Ascorbyl Glucoside, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate), which might not have all the benefits of pure vitamin C.

You can apply Recharge CE to cleansed and dry skin in the morning or the evening. It costs around R795, and is available from skincare therapists and skin clinics. For more information, head to Lamelle.

The Final Straw Reusable Copper Straws

These copper straws are a better alternative to paper straws and glass straws (I worry about these breaking, especially around my kids). They come in a set of six, and have a brush so that you can effectively wash them. There’s no weird aftertaste either.

They cost R150, and can be ordered here.

Lou Harvey 2019 diaries

I haven’t had a diary in so long, as everything is on my phone or on Google Keep. But, I’m going to back to basics with a gorgeous Lou Harvey page-per-day diary. There are various sizes to choose from, including a small, slim fit one that are great for handbags. I’ve bought a few as Christmas and teachers’ gifts.

They’re R380 for the large diaries, and go down in price with the smaller diaries.

They’re only available in stores to purchase, but if you’d like more info or a special delivery, head to the website.
