I’m a pescatarian who loves easy food prep, which is why my freezer is always stocked with some of the Fry’s products that make my shopping list – my favourites are the braai-style sausages, spicy sausages, Asian spiced burger and falafel balls.
Their latest product is Fish-Style Fillets made from vegetable protein (22%). They’re vegan, and while they can be baked or grilled in the oven, they’re best shallow-fried on the stove (deep-fried if you’re not that worried about the fat content).
You won’t necessarily get the exact same texture and flavour as fish, which is totally fine. What you will get is a crispy piece of protein that tastes really good, and with a lighter texture than I find in the other Fry’s nuggets/fillets. I like mine with a squeeze of lemon juice, or, and don’t judge me here, dipped in tomato sauce, with some sweet potato wedges on the side. Yum!!!!! The fillets are available from large supermarkets, along the rest of the range.
To get you tasting the new fillets, and enjoying the old favourites, Fry’s is giving away a range of products, plus a Le Creuset Signature Square Skillet Grill, in which to prepare your veggie fare. The skillet, which comes in 17 colours, has high ridges to allow excess fat and grease to drain, and spouts on two sides to allow for drip-free pours. Over time, apparently, the satin black interior develops a natural patina (thin layer) that is great for searing and frying.
Simply comment below, mentioning which Fry’s product you’d like to try – or eat again – the most (there’s no wrong or right reason).
The giveaway closes on Wednesday 5 June 2019 at 11am, after which the winner will be announced on the Rattle and Mum Facebook page, and then emailed.
This giveaway is open to SA residents. The prize cannot be exchanged for cash, or anything else.
