Win an online wine course with TOPS at SPAR

May 8, 2020

Whether you have an ample supply of vino these days or not, you can still learn about it (for isn’t lockdown a good opportunity to try learn new things?)

I recently did the first TOPS at SPAR Wine Show course with wine writer and expert Cathy Marston, and while I’m not in line to be the next winemaker, I learnt a lot, and I feel more comfortable about chatting about wine. I’m also sure that I’ll be able to order and buy wine with a lot more confidence now.

You could win one of two places to the next course, starting on Tuesday 14 May. Each course is worth R495, and consists of four live 45-minute online Zoom sessions taking place from 18h00 to 18h45 every Tuesday and Thursday over two weeks. Each session starts with 30 minutes of theory and ends with an interactive session. The links to each session gets sent afterwards, so if you miss a live session because of parenting duties, you’ll still get all the info.

Cathy is just brilliant with making things accessible and fun, and is great with answering questions, and making sometimes complex info very understandable.

The theme of the next course is ‘Local & Lekker – Focus on SA Wine’ . In sessions one and two Cathy explores and uncovers distinctively ‘lekker’ local white and red wines, showcasing their flamboyant flavours and savvy styles in detail.

Session three puts a spotlight on sweet, fortified wines, and the fourth and final session celebrates the Winederlanders by showcasing South Africa’s finest MCCs and bubbles.

For more info on the course, go to www.wineshow.co.za/courses.

I love Chenin Blanc, a Gewurztraminer with a curry or a beautiful Barbera.

I completed the Cape Wine Academy certificate course a year ago but slowed down just with everything but love wine so this would be inspiring and beneficial
