The first chills have hit autumn and while I’m looking forward to vegging in my onesie pyjamas and Hello Kitty socks, I’m also anticipating dry Joburg weather, and resulting dry skin.
I asked beauty editor Cassidy Taylor-Memmory of Glam Green Girl and Balm Balm for her advice on how to best take care of mommy skin for the new season.

“The first of March not only declared the start of a new month, but also the start of autumn. With the change in season, your skin care routine changes as well
Here are a few simple tips for the switch to autumn skin care:
- If you are using a gel cleanser, switch to a milk cleanser instead as it is richer.
- Start your day off with skin brushing. It helps remove dead skin cells; assists the lymphatic system; boosts circulation; improves the condition of your skin as well as the function of your immune system
- Switch to oil based lotions and creams. Your skin needs extra moisture during the drier months.
- Try a Deep Wrinkle Filler if you are looking to smooth and fill the appearance of wrinkles.
- Hydrate! While the temperature drops, we forget to drink our 2 litres of water every day. Drink up – your body and skin will thank you for it.
- Keep moving! Even though the cooler weather makes us reach for our blanket instead of our running shoes, keep up with your exercise routine
- Exfoliate – assist the skin brushing by removing dead skin cells with exfoliation, lather yourself in a rich cream afterwards and say hello to soft skin!
- Hydrosols will be your skins new friend – although people mostly use facial hydrosols during the warmer months, one of the key functions of a hydrosol is to lock in nutrients in your skin. So if your skin is feeling a bit dry in the day, a spritz of a hydrosol will refresh it. I recommend the Rose Water Hydrosol form Balm Balm
