Baby massage with Johnson’s Baby Top-to-Toe range

November 18, 2016

Baby massage is full of wins – it soothes your baby, increases their development, and is relaxing and bonding for both of you.

I’ve been doing a massage course at Bub Hub in Bedfordview, and I’ve been learning some great techniques and benefits. I try and massage my newborn every day, even if it's just her legs, or her stomach. It's often a matter of timing, and when I can find a suitable moment where she's relaxed and alert.

The experts recommend specific massage products for babies, and not nut oils, or anything high in fatty acids like olive oil if your baby has eczema or broken skin. I'm loving the new Johnson's Baby Top-to-Toe range.

There is also a massage oil and massage lotion cream in the range, and they both work wonderfully. Johnson’s Baby has always been promoting bonding through touch and touch and bonding, and this new range encourages just that. and There is no better way to increase development and awareness in your baby than by touch, and in particular, massage.

There’s also a baby wash and baby moisturising cream, and they’re all  gentle, hypoallergenic and dermatological tested. They’re also really affordable – starting from R24.95 each from retailers. They have a gentle smell and are easily absorbed, and stunning packaging.

Studies have shown that massaging an infant can reduce crying and fussiness, and can help them sleep better, and alleviate colic and indigestion.  It’s said to promote physical awareness and development, and cognitive development too. Some claim it can even boost a baby’s ability to fight off germs. More than that, it’s a lovely time to connect with your baby, and enjoy some bonding and touch time.

Before you begin, make sure your baby is relaxed and is fed. Massage is enjoyable and shouldn’t be done under duress or when baby is niggly, tired or hungry. Ensure the temperature is not too cold in the room, and either set yourself up on the floor with a cushion on towel, or on a changing mat. If your baby gets niggly at any point, stop the massage and cuddle or tend to her physical needs instead.
