A few months ago I went to a pregnancy workshop run by Baby Sense. I'm usually a bit sceptical about these pregnancy and parenting workshops because I fear that they'll just add fear, or an overload of information, or worse, an overload of unusable or unreliable information.
It was however superb, and I left with some great info, but more than that, I left feeling a bit more calm and confident about parenting for the second time (I'm a little rusty seven years after my son's birthday).
Great news for parents-to-be and parents is that MySmartkid – a leader in the parenting space – has now teamed up with Baby Sense to run a workshop next month (October 15).

What you can expect
There are two sessions that will be held at Nasdak rooftop venue, Media24 Centre, Cape Town Foreshore, from 9am to 12.30pm for expectant parents, and 1pm to 4.30pm for parents with children one to three years.
The price of R265 per person includes breakfast for morning guests and lunch for afternoon guests, talks by two leading parenting experts, a three-month digital subscription to Your Baby, Your Parenting or Baba en Kleuter magazines, a gorgeous goody bag, giveaways and a surprise treat.
The topics of the talks are:
* Healthy Mom = Healthy Baby by Kath Megaw. Establishing healthy nutrition from pregnancy through the toddler years is the best investment you can make in your child’s future.
* From Womb to World by Dr Welma Lubbe. Great advice on how to smooth your baby’s transition from womb to world by mimicking baby’s sensory experience in the womb after birth.
* Laying the Foundation for Good Communication for Life by Catherine Barry. This talk focuses on the building blocks for good communication and how you can best help your child navigate the world of speech and language.
* Parent with Sense: Positive boundaries by Meg Faure. All parents have a common goal for their child: to develop a strong and well-adjusted human being who has the strength of character to develop to their optimal potential. The problem is that it really doesn’t come with a manual and there are many variables that affect our parenting style. So, how do we go about parenting in the best way to develop strength of character?
