Half of your baby and toddler feeding battles – won!

June 11, 2012

I recently came across a range of baby/toddler cutlery and bowls that are so well designed I wish I had them them when my baby was moving onto solids, and when we battled with shallow spoons, clumsy bowls, and utensils that we couldn’t put in the microwave or dishwasher.

Danish company Fabrikators (whose tagline is “ingenious yet simple”) has a set of ergonomic toddler cutlery specifically for babies’ small, pudgy hands (they’re suitable from six months up).

The fork, spoon and knife have soft rubbery handles for easy gripping, and each are great for their respective uses. The fork isn’t sharp but can still spear food, the spoon is deep enough to get soft foods in, and the knife does a good job at “cutting” even though it has no blade.

The bowls have good stability and don’t slide, thanks to a slip-resistant surface and added weight in the bottom, and come in different sizes and depths. Called Toddler, the range is microwave- and dishwasher-safe, and free of BPA, PVC and Phthalates.

Toddler cutlery and bowls are available from the great site QueckBaby, an online shopping space that I also wish I had found earlier. QueckBaby sells imported top-of-the-range and innovative baby products, so if you’re looking for something not the run of the mill, or great gifts, this site is awesome. It’s even great for browsing, and seeing what’s available. The cutlery set sells for R350, the mugs from R170, and the bowls from R250. Not bad considering you’ll be using them for about two years plus.
