Hats off to these gorgeous sun-protective summer accessories

October 12, 2015

I first spotted an Emthunzini hat via my nail salon Polish, whose owner Lexi seems to know about and stock gorgeous and stylish jewellery, accessories and cosmetics I’ve never heard of. Like these gorgeous hats.

The worst part of going onto the Emthunzini site is trying to decide what I want for myself and my son for our upcoming summer holidays (if you see the ranges for women and kids, you’ll know what I mean).

Emthunzini Hats are affiliated with Rigon Headwear in Australia who have been designing, manufacturing and retailing fashion headwear since 1959.

They have UPF50+ protection (UPF stands for “Ultraviolet Protection Factor” and it is used to rate fabrics and their protection against the sun’s ultraviolet rays. SPF is used to rate lotions and skincare products). These sunhats meet with the international Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) requirements and are endorsed by the Skin and Cancer Foundation for Australia.

If you’re in Joburg, you can buy them from Polish, which stocks the Gillaroo (R470) , Kristy (R470), Breton (R430), Victoria (R490), Bella (R490), Morgan (R520), Roxy (R490), Capeline (R430) and Oscar (R470).

If you don’t mind buying without trying them on first, you can purchase online  (they have a handy size chart too). For more information, find them on Facebook or their website

Great to know

To pack your hat in a suitcase, Emthunzini recommends you push the crown of the hat straight down to flatten out the hat. Lay flat in your suitcase so that it won’t get folded or creased or some hats can be stuffed in your bag and you’re ready to go!
