Hot on the beauty front…

There have been a couple of new beauty product launches, and they’re each receiving much excitement.

Here’s what’s hot on the shelves:

Cetaphil

Cetaphil is such a well-loved brand, and when I featured the new products on my Instagram Stories, I got so many direct messages from women who still use the face wash, and who find it a basic and brilliant brand.

Their three new products are:

Daily Hydrating Lotion: This is a gentle and lightweight lotion with hyaluronic acid (HA) which is fantastic for hydration. My skin is already dry and winter hasn’t even hit fully, and this has been super moisturising. From R280.

Rich Night Cream: This also has HA for hydration, and again, works as well as the day cream. From R250.

Extra Gentle Daily Scrub: This scrub does just that – “scrubs” skin of dirt and impurities. I’m often scared of scrubs because some are a bit abrasive, but this one is gentle, thanks to the conditioner in the formulation. It’s safe gentle enough for daily use. From R170.

Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF30

Win-win – a sunscreen that gives you a natural glow! I was worried that this would give the “wrong” kind of shine, but it gives a lovely radiance, apparently thanks to “light-activated technology”. It also has matcha tea extracts, which are good antioxidants (by protecting the skin from things such as pollution). Available from R1 099.

New Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance

This could not have come at a better time. Because winter in Joburg. At the recent launch of this, all the beauty editors and writers around me were saying how they’re battling with dry skin.

Anyway, this is a reformulated product, which they say restores lipid balance for optimal barrier performance. This is important to protect your skin from harmful external factors such as sun, toxins and pollutants. A skin barrier also locks in the moisture in your skin.

Other ingredients include BioReplenish Complex to help enhance the skin’s natural resilience and support barrier recovery. A moisturiser that promises lots of moisture should have some Hyaluronic Acid. Here, it’s combined with echinacea, centella asiatica and aloe vera, to lock in hydration and help the skin look smoother.

My winter skin is so far thanking this moisturiser.

PS: It has no SPF, so you’d need to apply one after moisturising.

Dermaclinical

Dermaclinical skincare products launched a few months, with Debbie Wolfendale (ex Clarins) as its CEO. There are three ranges with various products: My Skin Brighter, My Skin Younger, and My Skin Clearer. They use active ingredients, and the products aren’t tested on animals.

I haven’t used them yet, but they’re on my “about to try” list. It’s worth having a look at their website to read more about their ingredients, and clinical studies.

Avene Physiolift Serum, and Cream

This great French brand has launched Physiolift Serum (R469.95) and Physiolift Cream (R429.95), with hyaluronic acid to moisturise. They have also been shown to smooth and plump the skin, and visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles. If you’re wanting a quicker fix, and not ready or willing for the likes of Botox and fillers.

Optiphi Calm Balm

I’m new’ish to Optiphi, but I’m impressed with what I have tried. This Calm Balm is good to get skins to chill out after the likes of sun exposure, waxing and laser treatment. It soothes skin that is irritated or damaged, and, while i haven’t tried it for my stretchmarks.

L’Oreal Elvive Rapid Reviver

I love extra-nourishing conditioners, but hate when I have to leave it in for many a minute before rinsing. The Rapid Reviver is just that – rapid. It conditions, you don’t need to leave it in, and it took my hair from feeling quite dry and drab to softer and quite luscious feeling. It’s suitable for everyday use – I only use it every four/five days.

L’Oreal Magic Retouch

If you can’t get to the hairdresser every time you spot a new grey hair, or your colour is fading at the roots, then this spray from L’Oreal is a great solution. It’s available in seven shades (so you’re bound to find something that works for you), covers grey in seconds, and lasts until it’s shampoo’ed out. It’s easy to use, and as its name suggests, it’s a bit of magic.
