Introducing an amazing gluten-free baking range

I’m fortunately not gluten intolerant, and can eat carbs until the cows come home, as they say (though I’m a vegetarian, so the cows don’t technically come home to me).

I’ve tasted a lot of “meh” gluten-free products before, and was sent some Gluten Free Me products to try out. I had seen some rave reviews from Laura at Harassed Mom, so I was curious to give them a shot. Most exciting is the fact that they’re premixes, which means just a few ingredients and several minutes of prep.

All their gluten-free products are made from cassava. Cassava is a starchy root vegetable. Apparently it’s good for gut health too as it acts as a prebiotic to feed the good bacteria. It also doesn’t raise glucose levels, so is considered low GI.

Gluten Free Me was started by a Pietermartizburg-based family, and they have big love and big ideas for this special brand.

Gluten Free Me’s cassava premix products include: wraps, brownies, cupcakes, cake, flapjacks, muffins and crackers. You can also buy the cassava flour separately. We got sent the full range, and have been doing what one does in lockdown – bake! The products are really good – my favourite are the brownies, followed by the flapjacks. I’ve been leaving my 10-year-old son to do a lot of the preparations and baking by himself – it’s that’ easy.
