My new urban “spa’cation”

February 19, 2019

“You’re going all the way to Boksburg to get your beauty treatments?”, asked my surprised husband.

“Well yes, I answered. It’s a stunning place, I feel completely relaxed there, and it takes as much time for me as getting to Bryanston.”

The spa, with a sister branch at the Premier Hotel OR Tambo, is my latest go-to. It’s the kind of place where I want to take my book and hang out for a few hours on one of the loungers, sipping on infused water. It’s the kind of place I feel completely comfortable walking around with a red face after a full facial wax. It’s a spa that doesn’t feel pretentious, that doesn’t try to sell you tons of products, and that makes you feel like a person, not just a body walking in (I’ve had experience with all of these types of spas, and as a result I’ve left slightly broke, irritated, and intimidated).

Evolve Day Spa offers everything one would expect: facials, tanning, waxes, nails, body wraps and massages. You can also request treatments such as Botox and microneedling. There are also kiddie’s treatments such as mini manis, pedis, facials and nail art, for example.

If you have more time and budget, or an occasion, you can go opt for a package – there are pampering couple, pre-wedding, pregnancy, men, group and teen options. How fab does this sound – Genuine Bliss (full day): Body Cocoon, including full body exfoliation, full body Swedish massage, spa facial, spa mani and pedi, spa lunch.

And if you can’t or don’t want to leave your little ones at home, Evolve Day Spa has an au pair service on Mondays and Tuesdays, from 8am to 1pm. There’s no cost to use the service – you just need to book in advance by emailing

Kids have their own play area, and will be taken care of by an au pair who has more than 15 years of au pair experience.
