Cape Town-based Tasquia Shaik is mom to Hanaa, and knows how to throw a great party! She pulled off daughter Hanaa’s third birthday party with a carnival theme, and as a caterer, made all the food too.
Says Tasquia: “Yaseen Khan from Maverick Design assisted me with the stationery- so invitations, the stickers for the plates, cups,juice and waterbottles,and all the other labels which were made on the day.
The rest of the décor was done by myself (I thoroughly enjoyed it!), I did the party packs as well. Basically my first step was to get the invitations and other stationary done, from there I decided what the main colours were, and then worked from there.
I am not a great fan of the characterised parties (Mickey, Minnie, etc.) and so I challenge myself to find something fun, and non characterised. Her 1st birthday party was flower themed, which was a garden party, also personalised.
This party was at home, we have an entertainment room which we used to set up all the party goodies so that we could keep the yard available for the jumping castle as well as have enough room for the pony to take the kids for their ride. Hubby dressed as a clown, and led the pony around. I’m not sure who enjoyed seeing him as a clown more, the kids or the adults!
For the adults we set up domino and card tables, so that they could also enjoy the afternoon.
The cake was done by Fiqalicious- Rafiqa Mahatey 076 269 2169, she’s awesome, as I go to her with an idea of what we’d like, and she always delivers awesome looking cakes which taste delicious! This was a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
The food was done by me (I run a catering company- www.thecorporatecaterer.co.za). I tried to think of carnival type items, so donuts, candy floss, the pop corn buckets, and then we had some savoury items on a different table for the adults and kids. The cupcake toppers were most challenging! As the image I chose was quite tricky to cut out! But the effect was awesome 🙂
We also used carnival type cutouts, and the number ‘3’ to make straw labels.
