The biggest hair trends for 2013

April 3, 2013

You might be thinking that this post belongs to a beauty blog, but from time to time I feature beauty and hair posts because moms are still women, and I strongly believe that some great lipstick, concealer and hairdo can make you feel as if you have had eight hours of sleep, or haven’t been whined at/cried on/used as a dairy/spat on etc.

Shelene Shaer of Tanaz Hair Body and Nails (branches in Joburg and Cape Town) has shared some of the hot hair trends for the year for if you’re looking for a change, or just wanting to know what’s “in”.

Plaits and braids

Braids are versatile and can be used in so many ways they add a bit of interest to a style. Short or long hair can accommodate braids.

Long hair

Long hair is here to stay, it’s pretty and versatile, whether you are styling your long hair into beachy waves, sophisticated up do’s or simply going poker straight ensure your long hair is kept at it’s best with regular trims.

The low ponytail

Forever classic the ponytail remains a steadfast form in hairstyling. A slight variation on the theme for this season sees a simple sleek long ponytail made striking with accessories to bring out the best in this low maintenance look. If your hair doesn’t have the length, you could try hair extensions.

The Micro Fringe

Made popular by lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Ann Hathaway The micro fringe requires precision cutting and regular upkeep but it will ensure you are bang on trend with your hair this year. Whether worn with a crop, bob, ‘lob’ or longer styles, make sure you get expert advice on whether this micro fringe hair trend will suit you and your facial features. Note a good dose of attitude will pull this look off beautifully.
