A few weeks ago I ran a giveaway with POND'S, and asked readers to submit their best skin tips in order to win an Age Miracle hamper (I'm currently using the products, and enjoying them a lot – more to follow next week).
I decided to share a lot of the tips here as I often find "real advice" is awesome, and hey, if it works for someone else, it could work for me. A lot of you said that drinking lots of water was the best way to get a good skin, while others swore by sunscreen, and even some natural remedies. Here are some of the #BeautifulHabits tips:
Anita Steenkamp: My skincare tip is water! I believe that drinking loads of water really helps the skin to stay vibrant and youthful.
Andrea: One of my favourite skin care secrets is the weekly face-mask of turmeric. sandalwood and milk .. it does wonders for skin rejuvenation!
Kerry: Looking good on the outside is very much about feeling good from within – it's amazing what a great attitude and bit of confidence can do for your skin.
Ragmat: My tip is not to wear make up every day, and rather on special occasions only. This gives skin a chance to breathe.
Michelle: I wash my face with cold water, I use Pond’s Lasting Oil Control face wash, twice a day, and then apply Pond’s Perfect Colour Complex Beauty Cream, can’t live without, my skin feels clean, soft and fresh, I love it! I also eat lots of fruit & veggies, try to drink as much water as possible and exercise.
Melissa: I have really dry skin so love masks that I make with oatmeal, honey and rosewater.
Alison: Drinking lots of water to keep skin clear and hydrated.
Molobane: Be kind to your skin by washing off the make up every night before going to bed, use a toner and a moisturiser. Keep hydrated all the time and avoid the sun.
Talia: My tip is get plenty of rest. A minimum of 8 hours a night, and your skin – including any pesky undereye bags – will look noticeably better.
Debs: My tip to looking and feeling beautiful is a good moisturiser at night.
Megan: Wear sunscreen-protecting yourself from sun damage will make you feel better now (how much fun could a sunburn really be?) and later on. Wear at least SPF 15 every day (higher if you’re spending time in strong sun) to help prevent skin cancer, wrinkles and sunburn. Oh, and don’t even think about going to the tanning bed.
Samantha: I make my own face and body scrub by mixing brown sugar with honey or olive oil and scrub regularly for smoother skin. I also make my own face mask using a mashed avocado, it helps to moisturise my skin and I wash off after 30 minutes. I use cucumber slices to reduce dark circle around my eyes and to to combat puffiness #DIY making me feel and look better from the outside.
Mommygosleepynow: Double cleanse! First with an oil based cleanser to dissolve make up and then a foam cleanser to remove any residue. It makes such a difference to the appearance of my (40-ish) skin.
Lauren: Putting on mascara is the very best thing I can do to help me feel better, and look better, it’s a little brush of confidence.
Janet: My skincare tip is to drink a huge mug of rooibos tea (no milk or sugar) first thing each morning. It plumps up my skin, helps get rid of toxins and is so refreshing.
Maret: My favourite #BeautifulHabits include using an exfoliator every second week, drinking lots of water and including raw fruit and veg in my diet.
Leeann: always wash make up off before bed. Oh and true Beaty shows from the inside. Be happy and be good your skin will thank you for it.
Anusha: My habit is applying moisturising cream every morning and evening, after washing my face. This helps keep my skin soft, smooth and moisturised I never suffer with dry skin. Applying cream daily has kept my skin healthy and nourished.
Roxanne: Tumeric is great for the skin – it restores complexion, gives a glow, and gets rid of impurities. Use it together with mustard seed oil and see an improvement.
Sharleen: Use sunscreen daily and exfoliate twice a week.
Tasquia: Drink lots and lots of water, and never, ever go to sleep wearing makeup. When you see a spot, put raw honey on it for f15 minutes and then rinse it off.
Taryn: My top tip is drinking green tea. Besides the usual cleansing, toning, moisturizing, my skin always feels better when I drink a few cups of green tea every day. Keeps me hydrated and it’s packed with antioxidants to cancel out the sneaky chocolate I had after lunch.
