So in case you didn’t know, Pixar’s Monsters University is opening tomorrow (just in time for the holidays). We saw the preview, hosted by Adidas, and I loved it – just like all the other two Monsters movies, it’s fun and funny, and the characters are awesome (plus the endings are never really what you expect them to be).
This movie is about Mike and Sully before they were good friends – this time they’re at university, competing with each and “failing” at being scary.
But one of the best aspects of the movie is its marketing – a Monsters University website was created as a trailer site for the movie. Have a look at it here – it looks exactly like any tertiary education website (you can even apply, see what courses are on offer, and see who’s on the staff).
Storytelling is one of Pixar’s now well-known “timeless rules”, and how brilliant to tell a story before the movie is even launched, that appeals to adults (and our inner children).
