It’s easy for kids to get sucked into a lot Netflix, iPad games, and if you’re my son, Fortnite during lockdown.

To help break this, I’m encouraging my son to do a LEGO challenge every day, join me for online exercise classes, go on virtual museum visits , and listen to free audiobooks from Amazon.

I came across some awesome recommendations from Popsugar on great free educational websites that kids can visit while schools are closed, or even while they’re doing online classes, for some extra fun or stimulation.

Another local activity I’ve found are the Whizkidzbox subscription activity boxes, for kids aged five to 12. Each month, the activity box will have the them of a certain country. In each country pack, your child will receive activities, games, puzzles, arts and crafts and souvenirs to discover all there is to know about the country. It’s fantastic learning, and with our first box, we also got a world map, and my son loved plotting stickers all over it, doing an “excavation” and learning lots about Egypt.

Kids can learn the ins and outs of measuring and reading recipes and try their hand at making dishes at America’s Test Kitchen weekly program.

Book Creator

Kids can make their own books using Book Creator’s 90-day free tutorial, which lets kids write and illustrate their own creations.

Breakout EDU has educational games on subjects such as science and maths.

Crayola

Crayola has craft ideas, as well lessons covering language arts, math, and more. And they’re totally free!

Edu-Together

Edu-Together videos covers academic subjects, like languages, science, history, and math.

Epic!

Epic! gives parents access to 35 000 different books, videos, and quizzes.

Hand2Mind

Hand2Mind is another site with free maths, science and literary courses.

Minecraft: Education Edition

 Minecraft: Education Edition teaches kids of all ages problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity.

Mystery Science

This is for kids from nursery school to grade 4, and has dozens of free science-related lessons.

National Geographic Kids

National Geographic Kids has put together a site full of free educational videos, games, and activities that center on wildlife and preservation for kids of all ages.

TakeLessons

TakeLessons is offering a variety of free classes, including a French course and a science class for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

TypingClub

TypingClub offers free games and activities meant to improve your kiddo’s typing skills.

The Weather Channel

 The Weather Channel’s website has science-based videos that touch on concepts such as rainbows, jet streams, and how tides work.
