What to expect from What to Expect When You’re Expecting

June 20, 2012

I was quite surprised to hear they’d made a movie inspired by one of my (and millions of others’) best pregnancy resources, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, which despite *only* one pregnancy, has been well used. But with some of my fave eye-candy actors in it (Matthew Morrison and Chace Crawford), and actresses I like to watch (Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks and Anna Kendrick), plus a love for popcorn, off to Nu Metro I went with besties Nicki and Melinda, for what I expected to be a light-hearted chick flick.

But it was more than just lighthearted, though there were some hilarious moments (Elizabeth Banks’ character finding out she was pregnant, and the guys and their Baby Bjorns and kids in tow, led by Chris Rock). There was some moving and tragic moments, and stories that struck a nerve with some of us. The movie tenderly dealt with issues of infertility, loss and adoption, but not in an unrealistic or “Hollywood” way.

We laughed, we felt and we cried in this enjoyable movie. And somehow one tissue was miraculously shared between us. And somehow my Maybelline mascara didn’t run.
