7 things your kids need to see you do every day to feel loved

April 4, 2017

I read an incredible piece on Popsugar that I wanted to share here, on things that your kids should experience from you every day to feel loved. These points are good reminders, plus affirmations of what we're doing right.

Make an effort to have some one-on-one time

If your child can see that you're making one-on-one time with them a priority, they will be able to grasp from a young age how truly important they are to you.

Put your phone down for them

Putting your phone down to chat to them or listen to them instead of scrolling through social media or reply to non-important messages shows your kids that they're more important than what's in your phone.

Let them be a witness to the love in your other relationships

Showing love and affection to other people, eg your partner or parents, sets a good example, and creates an overall positive environment.

Listen intently

When your kids know you're always listening to the little things, they'll be more likely to come to you with bigger things and feel safe and loved no matter what they're facing.

Show them tough love

Whether you're disciplining them for disobeying the rules or are having to say "no" to something they really want, they may not be happy in the moment, but they will eventually realise that the decisions you made for them were out of love.

Laugh out loud

Joking around, playing funny games and just being silly in general is good for you and your kids, and creates a great atmosphere at home.

Tell them you love them

Telling your kids you love them plus other positive words of encouragement will help your kids to know you are proud of them, and care deeply for them.
