App of the week: Nametrix, the useless and useful app that predicts your child’s future

April 12, 2013

I won’t call this a must-have app, or even an app that is necessary when naming your child, but it’s so much fun, and quite addictive.

Nametrix gives insight into your child’s future profession and personality. When you search a name, the app matches it with a likely profession, political party (American only), and its popularity ranking.

I searched my son’s name Max first, and Nametrix yielded the following results:

His top profession is disc jockey, followed by condutor, race car driver and physicist. His top party is Republican, and his name is #96 in popularity. If I had have called him Daniel, one of my favourite names, chances are he would have been a snowboarder and a libertarian.

My name’s popularity peaked in 1976 (incidentally the year I was born), and my top profession is a teacher (something I wanted to do for many years, and doing a bit of through my training). My name is #902 on the popularity scale.

And the fun continued – I searched family members and friends, and found some strong similarities, whether coincidental or not.

Nametrix is free from iTunes, making it well worth the minutes of fun and “prophecy”.
