They say better late than never. And even though “late”, I’m delighted to have discovered the book apps by Anita Pouroulis (an ex South African, now living in Spain with her family).

Anita has written four bestselling books, which are now all available on iTunes – Pancake Pandemonium, My Monster Mayhem, Oh, What a Tangle, and Mum’s Cronky Car.

The rhyming stories are great fun and funny, with some very humorous illustrations. The apps are easy to use and there are some interactive elements like objects moving or making noises when touched. You can read to your child, or you can choose from two narrators (an adult or a child).

There is a game with each app (for example, find a pan in each page of Pancake Pandemonium), which unlocks a bonus game. I battled to find all the objects, and had to back to the pages looking harder. I doubt a toddler or preschooler would be able to do the same without the help of an adult, but the stories and apps are more than appropriate for these ages.
