When I heard about Rock-a-Baby, a curated baby “fair” happening at the end of the month, I think I let out a massive “whoop”. Finally, someone was putting together something smaller, more tailor-made, and less exhausting than some of the big baby expos (which sometimes feel much like the next one).
Rock-a-Baby call themselves a “baby fair with flair”, and have sourced 40 vendors, with products for pregnant moms, women, babies and kids. There are also some fab food and drinks stands. The event is on Sunday 28 September at 73 Juta Street (home of the popular Neighbour Goods Market), from 9am to 4pm.
Rock-a-Baby is the initiative of Alex Royston and her sister Bailey Bezuidenhout, both stay-at-home moms. Alex has a small online business, The Selection (www.theselection.co.za), and has a blog Kimmy & Bear with Bailey and her other sister Cheska.
Says Alex: “Bailey and I both found the big baby expos large, loud and overwhelming. There were some treasures, and some practical items but mostly items that you just didn’t want or weren’t of great quality. We love the special gifts we’ve been given or great finds we have come across since becoming moms and these are the ones that became favourites or that other moms commented on, asking where we found them.
We decided to gather together these wonderful suppliers for an urban, upmarket baby fair. We have carefully curated Rock-a-Baby, choosing only products and services that we would love to use or have used ourselves. We are creating a wonderful shopping experience where moms can also meet like-minded moms and enjoy the day out.”
Tickets for Rock-A-Baby cost R50 each, and are available at WEBTICKETS.CO.ZA. Children are free, and if you use the promo code FRIEND14 and buy one ticket, get one free (for a limited time only).
