Many moms often ask me what the best IOS kids’ apps are, and I in turn ask them what their faves are. I’ve searched for some new ones, and included some of my favourites here – I’m sure they’ll come in handy while travelling, or on holiday.
Please note that with hundreds of thousands of educational and kids’ apps available, this list is by no means exhaustive or complete. I also haven’t included age suggestions for every app as all kids are different. Most of these apps are free though, so you can experiment to see if they’re suited to your child.
The Night Sky: This is a fun and educational app. When you hold your iPad to a dark sky, it tells you what constellations you’re looking at. ($0.99)

MONOPOLY Hotels: This old favourite has a new spin – here you can buy, build and manage MONOPOLY’s iconic hotels, and customise them. Good for older kids or tweens. (Free)
Moody Monster Manor: This app is awesome to ease kids’ fears in new places. By allowing them to create their own monsters, zapping bad dreams, throwing a “Monsterrific” party or helping monsters with their homework, kids are less scared of them. (Free)
Around the World With Lilup: A little pricey for an app at $2.99 for less than 30 pages, but it’s a wonderfully narrated and interactive app with Lilup, who travels around the world.
Match It Up (1, 2 and 3): A great learning app for development and cognitive skills. Match It Up 1 uses identical images, Match It Up 2 uses visually related images, while Match It Up 3 uses conceptual-related images, which means you can find the right level for your child. (Free)
Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim: This is a wonderful guide to water safety told through the story of Stewie, a duck who wants to swim with the ‘big ducks,’ but isn’t allowed until he learns the water safety rules. There are interactive options, a memory game, a singalong, and a “read-to-me” option. (Free)
