Ever wondered why there are no female LEGO minifigures? Here’s how to vote for more

Female Lego Minifigs

When last did you see a LEGO woman? I have a box filled with little men and characters, but not one female. It’s a weird one, considering girls love LEGO, and it’s not strictly a “boy” thing.

There’s a program called Cuusoo started by Cuusoo and The LEGO group that allows users to submit ideas for products to be turned into potential sets. Once a project receives 10 000 votes, LEGO will review it, and possibly produce it into a set for retail.

Featured on Cuusoo at the moment is a design by geochemist Alatariel of female figures with cool accessories. She has created three sets with three figures on three bases.

One set has an astronaut in space, an astronomer with a telescope, and a scientist in a laboratory with all kinds of cool beakers and science stuff. Another has a falconer with birds, a geologist, and an engineer designing a robot arm. Other occupations include zookeeper (with tiger!), judge, mail carrier, mechanic, firefighter, construction worker, and paleontologist.

Of her motivation, Alatariel wrote:

“Although recently LEGO® has started to design and add more female figures to their sets, they are still a minority. A small set of minifigures, which LEGO® has made in the past for different themes, would provide a great opportunity to add women to our LEGO® town or city communities. I have designed some professional female minifigures that also show that girls can become anything they want, including a fire fighter or a paleontologist (main picture). Being a geochemist myself the geologist and chemist figures are based on me:-)”

Vote here for the set, or find others that you like to vote for too.
