While they won’t be able to provide you with your own personal nanny or au pair, Emirates comes pretty close to making your life a lot easier when travelling with kids.
I’ve been on a few international trips with my son as a baby, toddler and preschooler, and not one (except for one leg of one trip) gave him anything “special” like activities, toys or a kid’s meal, or gave me an extra set of hands when I needed it.
So I was quite curious to learn about Emirates’ offering for kids. I’ve only ever flown with them solo, and even in economy, it’s never really felt like economy (or, as it’s commonly referred to on every airline, “cattle class”.
But what about the kids? Well, for starters there’s cabin crew and pilot uniforms that you can buy for them. I start by mentioning the uniforms because my plane- and flying-obsessed son has been asking for a “real” pilot’s suit for months, and I haven’t been able to find anything that’s not “plastic” or tacky.
Anyway, aside from uniforms that can be bought at the Emirates stores in Dubai, and online, here’s what else Emirates promises families:
– Priority boarding
– Changing tables and bassinets on every plane
– Up to 75 channels of dedicated children’s entertainment from up to 2 000 channels overall. Emirates has more than 60 children’s movies to view, including the entire Harry Potter series, a section dedicated to Disney classic movies, and over 20 dedicated children’s television channels including CBeebies, Disney Junior, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. The music selection includes One Direction, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.
– In-Flight meals especially made for children (2-12 years) and also for babies.
– A children’s magazine called Fly With Me Monster–My Monster Magazine
– Fly with Me Monster toys with blankets “buddies”, to wrap up with, or seat “critters” to attach to seat belts.
– Quicksilver wallets, travel journals, backpacks, cooler bags, story books and eye masks
