Verity King from Durban shared her daughter Arabella’s fifth birthday party, with its ballet theme. I love the cake that Verity made, and the gorgeous face painting.

Verity says: “For Arabella’s 5th birthday she was adamant she wanted a ‘ballet’ themed party! To me ballet screams pink and lots of it! So that is what I had in mind when I started planning her party. To my surprise ballet-themed party decorations are few and far between (in Durban anyway) so I had to make my own party packs and get creative with pink and purple decorations and food to carry the theme.

The party venue we chose was the ‘Flying Donkey’ which is a fabulous venue as it has lots of space to play on jungle gyms and swings as well as a sandpit. Not to mention the wendy house where a few of the little girls had their ‘tea’ and cupcakes. For the brave little ones there was even pony rides and some guinea pigs to look at. On top of the activities that were provided by the venue we decided to include a jumping castle (you can never go wrong with one of those) as well as a fairy face painter! The girls especially LOVED the face painting!

For the cake I decided to keep it quite simple and made a chocolate and strawberry cake with pink strawberry icing. To keep with the theme I tied a pink tutu around it and added some ‘old school’ ballet figurines. In order to make Arabella feel extra special her grandma made her a bright purple ballet outfit so she could stand out from all the pink around her. She of course had to make a matching turquoise blue one for her sister.

The best part of all the effort that went into planning and organising the party was Arabella saying ‘Thank you Mommy that was the best party in the whole world!’.”
