I never need an excuse for popcorn, Slush Puppies and big-screen movies where I can have a little break from my phone and world for an hour-and-a-half. In fact, it’s one of my most enjoyable things to do – with our without my child.

Epic in 3D (released on 14 June)
Epic is a 3D adventure comedy that reveals a fantastical world unlike any other. This animated adventure features the star-studded voices of Beyoncé Knowles, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Christoph Waltz and Amanda Seyfried, amongst others.
Monsters University (releases on 21 June)
This 3D computer-animated comedy, the second in the Monsters franchise, examines the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at Monsters University when they weren’t necessarily the best of friends. Hollywood stars Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, and Frank Oz reprise their roles as Mike Wazowski, James P. Sullivan, Randall Boggs and Jeff Fungus respectively. Bonnie Hunt, who played Ms Flint in the first film, will be voicing Mike’s grade school teacher, Ms Karen Graves, this time round. John Ratzenberger, who played The Abominable Snowman, is now the voice of a Monsters, Inc employee.
Spud 2 – The Madness Continues (releases on 21 June)
British screen legend and comedian of note, John Cleese, revives his role as The Guv, the eccentric English teacher, in Spud 2. South African-born star Troye Sivan is also back in the title role, along with Jason Cope as malicious housemaster Sparerib, Tanit Phoenix as the seductive Eve, Jeremy Crutchley as headmaster Mr Glockenshpeel and Aaron McIlroy & Julie Summers as Spud’s mad parents. The rest of the Crazy 7 (minus Gecko, of course) also makes a welcome return to the silver screen: Sven Ruygrok (Rambo), Josh Goddard (Mad Dog), Tom Burne (Vern), Byron Langley (Simon), Travis Hornsby (Boggo) and Blessing Xaba (Fatty). And who could forget Spud’s complicated love interests? Genna Blair is back as Debbie “The Mermaid”, Charlbi Kriek returns to taunt Spud as Amanda and Alex McGregor is the unhinged Christine.
White House Down (releases on 28 June)
While on a tour of the White House with his young daughter, a Capitol policeman is forced into action to save his child and protect the president from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders. This movie stars Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx and Maggie Gyllenhaal in this fast-paced, thrills a minute action drama.
Man of Steel (releases on 28 June)
Man of Steel is a 2013 American superhero film directed by Zack Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan. Based on the DC Comics character Superman, the film will be a reboot of the Superman film series, portraying the character’s original story. The film follows a young journalist who is forced to confront his secret extraterrestrial heritage when Earth is invaded by members of his race.The film stars Henry Cavill in the title role, with Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Russell Crowe as Jor-El.
Despicable Me 2 (releases on 05 July)
Get ready for the return of the lovable Minions in Despicable Me 2. This 3D computer-animated adventure comedy film is the much-anticipated sequel to the successful animated feature, Despicable Me, released in 2010. Steve Carell (Gru), Russell Brand (Dr Nefario) and Miranda Cosgrove (Margo) reprise their popular roles while Kristen Wiig, who played Miss Hattie in the first film, is the voice of agent Lucy Wilde. New cast members include Benjamin Bratt as Eduardo and Steve Coogan as Silas Ramsbottom, head of the Anti-Villain League. In this follow-up movie, the evil inventor, Gru, is no longer a villain, having saved his three adopted daughters Margo, Edith, and Agnes from Vector in the first film. However, because he can think like a villain, he is called on to save the world from the new villain on the block, Eduardo.
The Lone Ranger (releases on 12 July)
The Lone Ranger is a fictional character, a masked ex-Texas Ranger who, with his Indian companion Tonto, fights injustice in the American Old West. The character has become an enduring icon of American culture and the legend is once again brought to life in this film. Native American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice.
The Internship (releases on 19 July)
This comedy stars the hilarious pairing of Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson as two salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital age. Through a strange set of circumstances, they find their way into a coveted internship at Google, where they must compete with a group of young, tech-savvy geniuses for a shot at employment. An introduction into the digital age has never been this much fun!
